Dog got a huge non-cancerous lump?

He has had the lump for 8 months now it was the size of a g and now its the size of a melon Actually hes got a few smaller ones too ,ive had him to the vet who said because its non-cancerous and hes 13 years old he would not operate .Can this lump not turn into cancer ? why is the vet doing nothing about it ?
