Band problems.?

My uncle plays in a sort of band that is all latin and wants me to join.But as far as I know he won't talk to the other members about letting me in until get better.I play tenor sax and the sax is a big part of latin music as is the trumpet which my step-brother plays,I don't know if he has talked to him about joining though.My problem is what can I do-I've been playing for 3 years and finished band as the top tenor sax player in my cl.HELP!!!
